There are weddings that feel like a celebration, and then there are weddings that feel like coming home.
Caley and Jake's late May wedding in Chicago was the latter; a day filled with tears, laughter, and the kind of love that makes you believe in something bigger than yourself. For Caley, a Chicago native who grew up loving the tree-lined streets of Lincoln Park, this wedding was about coming back to her roots. Though she and Jake now call the D.C. area home, there was something meaningful about celebrating their marriage in the neighborhood she knew and loved.
The day began at the Claridge House in Chicago's Gold Coast, where Caley and Jake shared their first look. The moment they saw each other, the world seemed to fall away. Tears came quickly, and they held each other in a way that spoke louder than any vows could. I stepped back and let them have that moment; just the two of them, before the day swept them up. We made our way to the Lakefront Trail near North Avenue Beach for portraits in the midday sun. The light was warm, the breeze off the lake was perfect, and Caley and Jake were so clearly, undeniably in love. The way Jake looked at Caley (like she hung the moon) and the way she looked back, made every picture feel effortless.
Their ceremony and reception at Salvatore's carried that same energy. Their wedding party was pure joy; the kind of group that brings life and heart to every single moment. They celebrated Caley and Jake with genuine emotion and unfiltered excitement, and you could feel the deep friendship and camaraderie between everyone. It wasn't performative; it was real.
But it was a quiet moment during the reception that will stay with me: Jake was presented with a US Naval Institute pendant that had been in Caley's family for years. It wasn't just a gift...it was a symbol of him being fully welcomed, fully chosen, fully home.
Caley and Jake, thank you for letting me witness your day. It was an honor to tell your story.
